How Your Gift Helps Hospice Make a Difference

Thanks to generous support from our community, Ionia Area Hospice is the area’s leading expert in end-of-life care. We are a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing hospice care. We are not affiliated with any health care system and devote 100% of our human, financial and physical resources to being the community’s most comprehensive source for end-of-life care and information.

We are YOUR community Hospice.

Why Private Support is Needed
While the basic cost of providing hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most other health insurance plans, many of the most valued services we provide—for patients, families and the community—are funded solely by private gifts. Furthermore, as “the community’s hospice,” we turn no one away due to inability to pay. As an organization, we are committed never to restrict anyone’s care because of an inability to pay.

Your Gift in Action

Whatever gift of money or time you are able to contribute to Ionia Area Hospice, it will be used to help your community to experience care, comfort and support at the end-of-life. Patients and families on our program report their deep satisfaction and gratitude, which is due not only to the excellent care and support they receive but to the many additional services your gift can provide. These include such things as:

  • Excellent staff-to-patient ratios;

  • Complementary and alternative therapies, such as massage and music therapy, that are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance

  • The Life Legacy program which helps patients and families record moments of life;

  • More than 150 highly trained volunteers;

  • Bereavement services following the death of a patient for all community members at no charge to guide and support them;

  • One of two inpatient hospice homes in the mid-Michigan area.

Education
Responding to the need for a broader understanding of the role of hospice care, Ionia Area Hospice is committed to educating the community about end-of-life care.

Community Outreach
Hundreds of people every year benefit from the services Ionia Area Hospice provides–free–throughout the community. These include:

  • Bereavement Counseling and Support Groups for schools, churches, and businesses as well as individual community members, whether or not they’ve had a previous relationship with Ionia Area Hospice.

  • Special initiatives for under-served populations such as minorities, veterans, and children who need – but often don’t access – Hospice care programs.

  • Our Caring for the Caregiver program, which provides support and education for people who are struggling to look after ailing loved ones. (Typically held each Spring)

  • Hands-On Caregiving workshop, which provides demonstrations and tips for providing physical caregiving basics in the home.

  • Advance Care Planning assistance for individuals in the community who wish to prepare living wills and durable (medical) powers of attorney. There are many ways to make a meaningful contribution, including a memorial, tribute or annual gift, or a planned gift such as a bequest, life insurance policy or trust.
